Laurie Schreiber

Laurie Schreiber is a freelance writer, copy editor, and proofreader living on the Maine coast.

From 1990 to the present, she’s written hundreds of articles for newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and online publications. She writes public relations and marketing copy for businesses and nonprofits. Her photos often accompany these published works.

Schreiber is a regular contributor to Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors, Mainebiz, Soundings, The Working Waterfront, and Fishermen’s Voice. She’s also contributed to the Still Point Arts Quarterly, Maine Organic Farmer & Gardener, Bangor Daily News, Maine Edge, Dispatch, New Maine Times, and Total Landscape Care.

She is a special-supplement editor and writer for Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors and Mainebiz, working closely with production teams and dozens of clients.

Schreiber’s book, Boatbuilding on Mount Desert Island, was published by The History Press in April 2016.

Schreiber rigorously fact-checks and proofs her work, meets deadlines, communicates promptly with editors and production, originates or sources photographs, originates article ideas, and pursues leads. She cultivates excellent collegial and community relationships, and works well both independently and with teams.

As a staff writer for The Bar Harbor Times (1990-2012), Schreiber wrote about ongoing and breaking news at the municipal, regional, state, and federal levels, art, architecture, lifestyle, fisheries, boatbuilding, health, environment, science, education, travel, community life, and more. She was editor of the newspaper’s maritime section (1995-2012) and arts section (2010-2012). Her fishery and legislative articles were published throughout the statewide chain that included The Bar Harbor Times. Previously (1984-1990), in New York City, Schreiber wrote sales support copy for the Avon Corporation, working closely with creative teams, merchandise designers, and image consultants on messaging and design; and freelanced as copy editor and proofreader for The Village Voice and Financial World.
