John Butman

John is an author, editor, and collaborative writer. His latest work, with co-author Simon Targett, is New World, Inc.: The Making of America by England's Merchant Adventurers (Little, Brown—March 2018), which explores the commercial development of America before the Pilgrims arrived—in essence, it was the greatest and most fraught business start-up of all time. In addition to his own work—which includes works of non-fiction, fiction, and poetry—John advises and collaborates with thought leaders, content experts, and cause leaders around the world to develop and create idea-driven, non-fiction books. His collaborative titles include New York Times and BusinessWeek bestsellers, Economist "pick of the pile" and Berry-AMA award winners, and have been reviewed or featured in major publications around the world, including the New Yorker, the Financial Times, the Economist, and many others. John lives in Portland with his wife, Nancy, who volunteers at The Telling Room and 826 Boston.
