Deanna Bonner-Ganter’s black and white photography processed as etching and silkscreen printmaking techniques and photographic prints, has been exhibited in Rockport and Rockland, Maine; New York; Toronto and South America.
Independently Bonner-Ganter created lithographs on stone at Atelier Clot, Bramson et Georges, Paris, France, August-November, 1967; studied printmaking at Pratt Graphics Manhattan Center 1981-1983 and their seven week program in Valdettavo, Italy. During 1983-1996, Bonner-Ganter, resident student and librarian at the Maine Photographic Workshops, Rockport, also matriculated in master courses.
Bonner-Ganter taught drawing, design and printmaking in relation to art history during years of teaching (K- Community College, New Jersey and Maine , 1961-1998.)
In 1993, Bonner-Ganter began research concerning the life and photography of the Finnish-American photographer Kosti Ruohomaa. Her article “Bartlett’s Island, 1945” featuring Ruohomaa’s photographs appeared in the Island Journal: the Annual Publication of the Island Institute, Number Nineteen, 2002.
Finland’s Culture and Education agency granted support in 1994, that enabled Bonner-Ganter to present her subject, Kosti Ruohomaa to museums in Finland. In April 1998, Bonner-Ganter was guest curator for Kosti Ruohomaa Photographs at the Porin Taidemuseo. (Pori Art Museum). This event was supported by the museum, the Farnsworth Art Museum, U. ME College of Natural Resources and private donations. In autumn, 1999, she was invited to be guest curator at the Farnsworth Art Museum: “Mood Poems, the Photography of Kosti Ruohomaa. ” Bonner-Ganter was awarded The Wyeth Foundation of American Art a generous grant towards this exhibit and Ruohomaa research.
1998 Bonner-Ganter contracted with the Maine State Museum for the position Curator of Art, Photography and Archives. From 2000 until 2016 she curated ten exhibitions based on museum collections. Her piece: “The Known Portraits of William King, Maine’s First Governor” appeared in Maine History, vol 43, June 2008.
Bonner-Ganter curated “The Passionate Photographer: Kosti Ruohomaa’s Maine and Magazine Photography” that opened July 15, 2015 –July 2016 (Maine Photo Project)
