Ben Thomas is known as Maine's first author to bring white-water canoeing to the Maine wilderness with the breakout book No Horns Blowing, a guide to white-water canoeing, which was followed by Hot Blood and Wet Paddles, a book on canoe racing. His last work of nonfiction, The Weekender, is about white-water trips that can be paddled in a weekend.
A graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, a ham-radio operator (KIBRT), a float-plane pilot, and a master Maine guide, Thomas is the author of six books and eleven articles that appeared in national magazines. He recently taught creative writing at the University of Maine Augusta Senior College and is currently writing young-adult fiction, making a mark on adventure, mystery, and romance literature based in the Yarmouth, Portland, and the Casco Bay area.
Readers say that his dialogue snaps, action rips, and the romance and mysteries are fresh and crisp. Book lovers who enjoy tales of lost treasures and mysterious codes will want to read Code Breaker, Scuba Gold, and the newly released YA novel The Scorpion Riddle. Writers will find his new manual, 30 Techniques of Creative Writing and Other Acts of Writer's Magic, full of helpful hints which will jumpstart their writing careers (see Thomas's Youtube channel).
