Through Emerald Eyes by Maine writer Belva Rae Staples

Belva Rae Staples

Belva Rae Staples is a lifelong resident of a picturesque place six miles off the Maine coast called Swan’s Island. She lives there with her husband, Joe, and their dog, Magnum. She’s been a commercial fisherman for twenty-nine years and works with her husband aboard their 36-foot lobster boat: Fifth Day. Together they fish the waters around their beloved island, and the experience gained from working on the sea as well as the unique perspective gleaned from island living provides a lot of good writing fodder for an imaginative mind.

Staples is the author of three fantasy novels and weaves a Maine-island theme throughout the fabric of each story. The first volume in the series, The Kriterion Saga: The World Between, was a finalist in the Religious Fiction Category at the 2013 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Volume two is entitled Tide Walker. The latest release, Through Emerald Eyes, came out in February 2014.

She is also a featured author at Book Expo America 2014. She regularly writes poetry, short stories, and serials for her two blogs: Mainely Mug Ups and Island Sea Chimes. Another exciting event on her radar screen is her participation in the upcoming Fisher Poets Gathering, February 27–March 1, 2015 in Astoria, Oregon.

Her interests range from reading to big-game hunting, but at the core of her being she is about faith and family. She’s a mother of two and grandmother of seven and loves to watch them all as they grow and go through the changes. Nothing makes her happier than a really good book and a cup of strong black coffee.
