Annie Avilés is radio maker, writer, and editor. She spent the first ten years of her career in South America, working as a foreign correspondent for National Public Radio and PRI's The World, and as a contributing editor at Radio Ambulante, an award-winning Spanish language podcast. In addition to her work in sound, Annie's essays and reportage are published by Harper's Magazine, Smithsonian, and the Virginia Quarterly Review. Her stories have earned awards from the Fund for Investigative Journalism, the Fulbright Program, the International Reporting Project, and the Rona Jaffe Foundation. Annie has held positions as a resident fellow at UC Berkeley and as a visiting scholar at NYU, and has taught at Boston University, the University of Southern Maine, and UC Berkeley. She is currently Assistant Professor and Chair of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at Maine College of Art.
