Raye Leonard earned a creative writing M.F.A. from Stonecoast at the University of Southern Maine in 2006. Bad Mother Chronicles, the zine she published for her third semester critical study was picked up by
RaisingMaine.com, where it enjoyed a three-year run as a top blog. Raye was the featured guest on the BBC’s World Have Your Say five times on topics related to motherhood, and went on to be the featured feminist blogger of Love on the Run at Blogher.com.
In print, Raye wrote freelance articles and essays for local, state, and regional media outlets, and published the literary magazine, Wife of Bath.
Raye became assistant editor of the weekly Coastal Journal in 2013 before taking over as editor and general manager 18 months later, a position she held until the end of the paper’s 52-year run in 2018. Her news career was crowned by a final brief post as the tenth editor of The Lincoln County News.
Along the way, Raye became a dedicated adult educator, and for 10 years taught students at Southern Community College how to write.
Raye lives and writes in the Midcoast where she fosters lifelong learning as an adult education director for three school districts.
