M. Daniel Smith

M. Daniel Smith is a prolific writer of speculative and historical fiction. He enjoys creating worlds peopled with strong-willed men and women, struggling to come to terms with events affecting their relationships, lives, and destinies. His novels to date include a three-book series, Legacy's Road, which is a family saga based on the Seven Year War through the Revolutionary War, with additional books planned. He also has released the first of a two-book series, Coalescence: The View Within.

Born and living in Mid-Coast Maine, M. Daniel Smith enjoys authoring stories that exemplify the best and worst in human nature, portraying characters left to search within their souls during horrible events or divine. He seeks to tell the truth of our daily experiences, based on his own journey made through life.

His background in writing includes hundreds of poems, written to and about people he has loved, and lost. To children coming of age, reflecting his love for them. To siblings, parents, and friends, letting them discover through his words, how loved, respected, and admired they all have and continue to be.

Born to a mother who was never without a book near to hand, he cut his teeth on reading anything he could reach from early childhood on. His life was inspired at an early age by the worlds created by the great writers of fiction, historical through hard sci-fi. All he has read and then written of, inspired by a proverb shared with him by his beloved Grandmother, Beryl. “Everything is grist for the mill.” A message he’s passed along to six children and ten grandchildren, in turn.

Now retired, he spends his days writing stories formed on the foundation of those writers who inspired him to turn the next page, discovering worlds filled with adventure, heartache, joy, and pain. Or, as he likes to call it: life.
