Jim Krosschell divides his life into three parts: growing up for 29 years, working and raising a family for 29 years, and now writing in Newton, Massachusetts and Northport, Maine. He has published some 60 essays in a variety of journals and magazines. Many of those essays are Maine-themed and were published in book form as One Man’s Maine (Green Writers Press, 2017, illustrated by Emma Krosschell). In 2018 the book won the John N. Cole Award for Maine-themed Nonfiction, a Maine Literary Award. His book Owls Head Revisited was published in 2015 by North Country Press.
Those years of growing up included moving a lot to various towns in the upper Midwest and Canada, a BA in English Lit from Calvin College, an MA in English Lit from Northwestern University, a tour in Peace Corps Korea, and (his proudest achievement) not getting a real job until 1979. Those years as a real adult included book and journal publishing at Little, Brown, Blackwell, and Cell Press/Elsevier, and wonderful wife Cynthia Dockrell and daughters Kate and Emma.
In retirement, besides writing, he has volunteered for Coastal Mountains Land Trust in Camden, including being President of the Board of Directors for seven years, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors for MWPA.
