Hans Krichels

Born and raised in Massachusetts, schooled in New Hampshire and Wisconsin, by 1971, Hans had stashed on a shelf several boxes of childhood things: scrapbooks of life with six siblings, two pairs of hockey skates, various degrees in literature and linguistics, photos of two deceased parents, early writings as a newspaper reporter, fieldwork for something called The Dictionary of American Regional English, and gotten on with a life among the homesteaders,  townsfolk and  outback folk in rural Maine. In the years that followed, Hans built a home with his little family in the woods and raised two fine daughters, along with organic vegetables and a small herd of dairy goats. At the same time, he  worked variously as a reporter, photographer,  teacher, signmaker, carpenter, woodcarver, and mentor among what he calls The Lost Children of Maine. Throughout it all, Hans wrote funny (he thought) stories and accounts of what was going on around him. A recent book, Willie Knows Who Done It, is available online and at bookstores throughout Maine. The current collection, We Have Met The Enemy, is the result of daily musings and reflections during the days of pandemic in Bucksport, Maine.
